Amman City tour; (visiting of Citadel & theater) – Jerash – Ajloun – Amman
After breakfast, transfer to visit Amman, the capital of Jordan, which stands on 7 hills. (The ancient Roman theater, dating back to the times when Amman was called Philadelphia, and a citadel from which you can admire splendid examples of Roman, Byzantine, and Muslim architecture, as well as the Archaeological Museum with artifacts from all over the country dating back to prehistoric times through the fifteenth century, and the Folklore Museum.) Then, drive to visit Jerash. (The city’s golden age came under Roman rule when it was known as Gerasa. The site is now generally acknowledged as one of the best-preserved Roman provincial towns in the world. Hidden for centuries in the sand before being excavated and restored over the past 70 years, Jerash reveals a fine example of grand, formal provincial Roman urbanism. It comprises paved and colonnaded streets, soaring hilltop temples, handsome theaters, spacious public squares and plazas, baths, fountains, and city walls pierced by towers and gates.) Continue your journey by driving to visit Ajloun. (The marvels of nature and the genius of medieval Arab military architecture have given northern Jordan two of the most important ecological and historical attractions in the Middle East: the sprawling pine forests of the Ajloun-Dibbine area and the towering Ayyubid castle at Ajloun, which helped defeat the Crusaders eight centuries ago.) Overnight in Amman.
Amman – Madaba – Nebo – Petra
After breakfast, proceed to Madaba, located along the 5,000-year-old Kings’ Highway, which is one of the most memorable places in the Holy Land. After passing through a string of ancient sites, the first city you reach is Madaba, known as the ‘City of Mosaics.’ Then, drive to visit Mount Nebo, one of the most revered holy sites in Jordan and the place where Moses was buried. A small Byzantine church was built there by
early Christians, which has since been expanded into a vast complex. During his visit to Jordan in 2000, the late Pope John Paul II held a sermon here that was attended by some 20,000 faithful. Afterward, transfer to Petra for an overnight stay.
Petra – Wadi Rum
After breakfast, visit the city of Petra. The city shimmers in the morning sun with its rosy hues. The entrance to Petra can be found through a winding, narrow gorge known as the Siq, which is approximately 1 kilometer long. The walls of the Siq reach a height of 100 meters. As you walk through the Siq, you’ll come across the Treasury, the most famous monument in Petra. Its facade stands 40 meters tall and 28 meters wide, carved directly into the rock. This 2,000-year-old city of the Nabataeans has one of the most important human monuments. Afterward, drive to Wadi Rum for dinner and an overnight stay.
